Daily 5: Read to Someone

Here are some snapshots of the kids doing one of the Daily 5 components: Read to Someone! They love it and they're working hard on their stamina and fluency!

1st Grade Class Rules

We decided that in order to make our hopes and dreams come true, we better brainstorm some classroom rules. Here's what we came up with:
1. Listen to everyone
2. Treat others how you want to be treated
3. Be respectful
4. Be in charge of YOU

Each small group decorated a rule and then we all signed the poster!

Our Butterfly!

This morning when the kids arrived at school, they noticed that the butterfly was just starting to show it's wings and emerge from it's cocoon. By snack time, it had completely emerged. It was so exciting! We'll release it sometime this week. Thanks Isaac and family for sharing it with our class.

The Defeat of Jesse James Days!

We had fun dressing up in our western wear on Friday and also enjoying the presentation and story of Jesse James and his gang!

Our first days in 1st!

We've had a great couple first days together so far! I'm not sure if your child has told you about filling up their filing cabinet, in their brain, but I'm sure they are quite full after everything they've been practicing and learning about in our classroom this week. One friend said with a smile on his face, "My filing cabinet is so full, it's ripping!" :)

We spent some time discovery some of our math tools on Tuesday afternoon.

Hello 1st graders and families!

Welcome to a new school year! I couldn't be more excited about this year in 1st grade! I am looking forward to getting to know each and every one of you as our year together moves forward.

A few things I'd like to share with you about ME!

  • The top picture is of myself and my husband Tim - we've been married for just over 2 years.
  • The bottom picture is of our British Red Lab, Kayda - she's about 8 months old.
  • I grew up in Owatonna, went to St. Mary's School from kindergarten-8th grade and graduated from OHS
  • I completed my undergrad at UMD and am currently in the 2nd year of my master's program at Concordia University - I'll finish in June!
  • I LOVE to read, hike, be with family, and...
  • Work on our baby's nursery! We're expecting our first November 20!
